I remember seeing my first Viper at the 1990 Chicago auto show. It was absolutely stunning. This car could not have been more different than the LeBarons and Caravans that most people associated with Chrysler. Since that time the Viper has evolved into one of the most wicked cars on the road, as evidenced by this 2014 SRT model with 6,200 miles.

This beautiful example is finished in the aptly named Viper White. It looks especially sleek with the optional exterior carbon fiber package, including the front splitter and rear spoiler. The SRT hood and fascias ensure the car stands out too. Things go a step further with the optional matte Sidewinder II wheels (once you've seen these on a Viper it's hard to look at the base wheels again). Note the huge Pirelli tires; P295/30ZR18 in front and P355/30ZR19 in back. Additional exterior items include the optional advanced aerodynamics package and front/rear brake duct bezels.

Beyond the exotic looks is the real heart of the matter: performance. The fifth generation Viper is equipped with a whopping 512.5 cubic inch V10 rated at 640 hp. It makes an absolutely intoxicating sound through the dual side sport exhaust. All that power is routed to a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission and 3.55 limited slip rear end. Handling is exceptional with the single mode sports suspension, assisted by the unique structural x-brace up front. Of course it also has selectable electronic stability control and traction control to keep you pointed in a straight line.

The interior is all Viper as well with many nice features, starting with the optional Sabelt seats and Demonic Red seat belts. This car also has the optional carbon fiber interior accent package. Additional options include the 8.4" touchscreen with navigation and backup camera. There is also the SRT high performance audio system featuring a 900 watt amplifier, 12 speakers, and media hub (SD card, USB drive, aux input). Instrumentation features a 220 mph speedometer and electronic gauges, all highlighted by a graphite instrument panel bezel.

There is still more; keyless entry with immobilizer, premium security alarm, HID headlights, LED taillights, Uconnect voice command with Bluetooth, SRT Performance Pages, temperature control, power adjustable sport pedals, et al. A complete build sheet is available.

This Viper is everything you'd expect. Extraordinary looks, gobs of power, splendid performance, and a sporty yet comfortable interior. One other note as you consider such a purchase: the Viper is a rather exclusive car, with production of less than 1,000 per year for the last eight years. By comparison there were more than 37,000 Corvettes built for the 2014 model year alone. Which car would you rather own?
