Here is a real gem! This is a fully restored 1956 Chevrolet Task Force 3100 half-ton stepside pickup. It's one of the nicest old trucks I've been around, and really stands out in a crowd with its Golden Yellow paint and excellent condition throughout.

Introduced in late 1955, the Task Force series was a revolutionary pickup for Chevrolet. Among other things, it introduced 12V electrical systems and the small block V8 to their truck line. It also included the signature wraparound windshield from the automobile line. This particular model also has the optional panoramic wraparound rear glass which really adds to the truck's good looks.

This truck hails from California where it underwent a complete restoration. It is in excellent shape throughout. Rust? Not here. The cab corners, hinge posts, and fenders are all solid and true. The paint, chrome, and moldings are outstanding. The bed is fantastic as well. Note this paint was a standard color in 1956. In fact, I have an original Task Force advertisement from 1956 that shows the 3100 in this exact color.

The rebuilt 283ci engine is not original but looks nearly identical to a vintage 265ci motor with generator (though it has a spin-on oil filter for convenience). It is topped by a Rochester 4v carburetor with manual choke. It runs flawlessly and provides good power to move this big truck around. The transmission is the old three-on-the-tree which is a blast to drive! The clutch and shift linkage are both smooth as can be. The brakes, steering, and suspension have all been redone as well.

The interior is excellent as well, and surprisingly comfortable. The high seating position and huge steering wheel make you feel in charge of the road. The dash, seats, door panels, and 'headliner' are all very well done. All gauges work, as do the wipers, horn, and optional heater / defroster. A nice touch is the "signal sighter" prism on the dashboard, which was used to help see traffic lights from underneath the cab's visor (especially when there was only one light hung from the middle of an intersection).

This really is a great piece of history. If you are serious about a NICE truck from this era then I encourage you to check out this example. The hard work is done; all you have to do is hop in and enjoy the ride.
