The Trans-Am was the greatest and most identifiable muscle car of the late 70's. This example goes beyond
the excitement provided from the factory and presents an outrageous ride that you won't soon forget!
As you enter the car, you'll notice the seats hold you firmly, unlike the factory pieces. A turn of the key
and you immediately know something is different. The electric fuel pump hums to life, and the engine fires
with a roar through the dual 3" exhaust. It is loud, and will set off car alarms regularly. As you engage
the B & M ratchet shifter, your knuckles tighten as you prepare to get underway. However, you soon realize
that the power steering and power brakes make things very easy to handle, as long as you don't spin the
Nitto drag radial tires in back.
This particular car is a 1978 model that started life with a W72 400ci block, which was the largest available
engine after 1976. It has been upgraded to a 1970 YH 455ci motor bored 0.040" but with the original motor's
6X-4 heads milled to 84cc. This is a great combination that produces excellent torque. The car is fast!
The transmission is a TH350 with a shift kit and 2600rpm stall converter, while the rear end is the original
3.42 positraction unit.
The body on the car has been redone and repainted, with new quarter panels, new wheel tubs, new rear valence
panel, new windshield, and new rear springs. Along with this, a 4-point roll cage was installed along with
welded subframe connectors. This really stiffens things up, and the car can get around corners faster than
you'd imagine. The interior has been redone as well with new racing bucket seats, dash pad cap, and door
panels. The power windows, power locks, clock, stereo and heater all work great, though the air conditioning
is presently not installed. Autometer oil pressure and temperature gauges have replaced the ash tray; after
all, better to smoke the tires than the interior.
