The Mopar A-body has to be one of the best classic car deals on the market.  This 1972 Plymouth Duster demonstrates that fact by combining great muscle car looks with a platform that is fun to drive and simple to maintain.  With its 360ci engine and snakeskin vinyl top, this one remains all Mopar, yet much more affordable than so many others.

Built on March 21 of 1972, this example was factory equipped with the A64 Gold Duster package.  This included special graphics and the unique snakeskin canopy vinyl top.  Take a look at the pictures; nobody did it like Mopar in the 1970’s!  The fender tag also shows GY9 Tawney Gold paint along with drip rail moldings.  The exterior was refinished in 2015 and refitted with American Racing 17” aluminum wheels that really add to the look.  In addition, the underside and floor pans are all in solid original condition.

This Duster left the factory with a 225ci straight six under the hood.  While that is a thrifty and reliable engine, it was replaced in favor of a street 360ci V8 backed by a Torqueflite 727 automatic transmission and a 7-1/4” rear end.  The power steering has many new parts and feels just right.  So does the suspension which gives a comfortable ride and great stance along with front and rear sway bars.  Braking is handled by power front discs with an updated booster, master cylinder, and an adjustable proportioning valve.

The interior is in fantastic condition.  Listed as Gold from the factory, everything looks great including the seat upholstery, carpet, headliner, door panels, and dashboard.  It is stock appearing throughout with the exception of a Pioneer digital head unit replacing the old 2W AM radio.  All gauges, lights, and turn signals work properly.  So do the horn, wipers, and parking brake.  The seat belt buzzer also works including the passenger seat sensor!  Pretty slick for 1972.  The factory a/c is complete but non-functional, while the heat and defrost functions are intact.

Whether you are looking for an entry-level classic or just adding to your collection, this Duster has a lot to offer.  And when it comes to the Mopar lineup, not only is the A-body (Duster, Dart, etc.) more nimble than the larger B-body (Charger, Road Runner, etc.), but its size makes it easier to get in your garage.  As does the price.
